Fair Lawn Library Holding Hindi Story Time

The library has previously hosted story times in Russian, Spanish and Hebrew.

A new program coming to the Fair Lawn Library will cater to Hindi-speaking families and others interested in the language.

Hindi story time will be held October 17, November 14 and December 12 from 4:15 to 4:45 p.m. for children aged 3 to 6 and their parents. The story times will include books and some simple plays and songs from a Hindi-speaking staff member, according to children's librarian Kate Nafz.

"We have a growing Hindi-speaking population that we're reaching out to," Nafz said.

The library has previously hosted story times in Russian, Spanish and Hebrew.

"Story time is story time, no matter what language you do it in," Nafz said. "It's the sharing of books."

Besides providing entertainment for children, the programs have the added benefit of connecting local parents with others who speak their language, she said.

"When we do the story times in another language, it's so nice for the parents to find each other," Nafz said.

For more information about the Hindi story time, call the Children’s Department Information Desk at (201) 796-3400 ext. 6. The library is located at 10-01 Fair Lawn Ave.
