New Girls Singing Group Seeks Members

Singers Company, a franchise of elementary age girls performance groups, will open up shop in North Jersey next month.

A non-competitive singing group coming soon to North Jersey will offer elementary age girls an opportunity to build friendships and gain self-confidence through vocal performance.

Singers Company,  a growing performance franchise with local groups in 16 states across the country, will open its newest branch in September under the musical direction of Fair Lawn resident Emily Pascual. It will be the first Singers Company group in New Jersey.

Elementary age girls of any skill level are welcome to join the group, which, starting Sept. 10, will meet Mondays at 5 p.m. at All Saints Church in Glen Rock, located at 40 Central Ave.

“It’s really about building their confidence,” said Pascual, a stay-at-home mom who teaches piano lessons and leads a children’s singing group at her church in Paterson. “They don’t have to have super good talent. We want anyone who’s interested, anyone who would like to be a part of it.”

Weekly classes run for 50 minutes and include a standardized lesson plan that allots time for singing, dancing and interactive play.

“They really focus on getting to know each girl,” said Pascual, who’s taken online training courses to familiarize herself with the Singers Company curriculum. “There’s a sharing time in the beginning where each girl can share and get to know each other.”

Classes culminate in winter and spring performances at the church, and Pascual said an additional performance at a local retirement home is also a possibility.

“Their goal is for all of the girls to sing a solo at some time in the performance,” explained Pascual, who said it’s not about showcasing the girl with the best voice, but rather about letting girls have fun and grow comfortable performing. “It’s never going to be a perfect show, but each girl will be highlighted for their desire to perform and their talents.

Singers Company classes range in size from 16 to 24 elementary age girls, although Pascual said she’s focusing specifically on girls in grades 1 through 4 at the outset. The cost to attend is $50 per month, but Pascual said that girls are welcome to attend a couple classes for free to get an idea whether the group is right for them.

If you're interested in enrolling your daughter, you can do so or request more information on the Singers Company website.
