Developer Plans to Reopen Defunct Saddle Brook Hotel

The company hopes to open a Crowne Plaza Hotel in time for the Meadowlands Super Bowl next year.

The defunct Saddle Brook Hotel and Conference Center — a local landmark known for its unusual design which turned into an eyesore — is set to reopen as a Crowne Plaza Hotel, northjersey.com reported.

The former hotel near Route 80 was originally built in the 1970s. It operated as a Holiday Inn for years before becoming the Saddle Brook Hotel and Conference Center. It closed three years ago.

The Florida-based Alena Hospitality LLC purchased the lease from the United International Bank for an undisclosed sum, according to the report. The company is planning some renovations but hopes to have the hotel open in time for next year's Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium.

Most area hotels are reportedly already full for the week of the Super Bowl. Some Bergen County residents have been advertising rooms or full houses for rent during the event.
