Dish Eatery Renovates, Revitalizes Former Brunch Club Cafe

Dish Eatery, a new Fair Lawn restaurant, offers Mediterranean-American cuisine at the site of the former Brunch Club Cafe on the corner of Fair Lawn Avenue and Chandler Drive.

After undergoing several months of extensive renovations, the restaurant held a soft opening of breakfast and lunch three weeks ago and began also serving dinner Monday, according to restaurant owner and Fair Lawn native Alexander Monfared. The renovations have left the eatery with a completely new kitchen, bathrooms and dining room.

Even though the restaurant is open for three meals each day and offers "everything," they're not a diner like Brunch Club was, Monfared said. There are set hours for each meal and they've expanded the menu with dishes prepared by Monfared's mom, Tatjanna Monfared, a graduate of Manhattan's Institute of Culinary Education. 

The menu includes classic options and others that show off Monfared's culinary skills. For example, the breakfast menu includes regular pancakes with sliced bananas or berries, or Monfared's lemon ricotta pancakes with berry compote. There's also a kids menu for guests 12 and under.

Alexander Monfared said he aimed to bring food of higher quality to Fair Lawn than is commonly found here. Consistently fresh food, good service and a cozy atmosphere are Monared's goals, he said.

"I like to get things right the first time," he said. "I know how important first chances are."

Dish Eatery is new, but it's not the first Alexander Monfared has worked at or the first in the family. Growing up, his parents owned several area restaurants where he worked. 

"It was kind of in my blood," he said.

Fair Lawn Avenue was an appealing location because of its central placement near Route 208 and many businesses and homes, Monfared said.

"The renovations took longer than expected, but I'm sure that everyone will be happy with the final product," he said.

Dish Eatery is located at 19-01 Fair Lawn Avenue, on the corner of Chandler Drive. Breakfast is served from 8 to 11 a.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekends, lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends and dinner is served from 5:30 to 10 p.m. six days a week and from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sundays.
