Special Needs Taekwondo Classes, Age 9 to 13

This program will address the needs of children with Down Syndrome, mild Autism, ADD, ADHD, Asperger’s, other learning or cognitive disabilities, as well as challenging behaviors. We use various methods of instruction(such as multi-sensory) based on each individual’s abilities or needs. Two Instructors (or one Instructor and one Assistant Instructor) will be present at each class. Depending on individual needs, aides may be employed to further assist students.
Beginner Taekwondo presented in a fun, upbeat format, with positive behavioral supports and guidance to promote self-esteem and to encourage cooperation. Our easy step-by-step exercises and techniques are designed to help children develop attentiveness, balance and coordination. The routines and “drills” will keep them focused and engaged as they learn how to protect themselves, while the structured regimen will encourage them to achieve self-control and respect of self and others. Basic self-defense techniques will be introduced gradually and will be practiced with the use of targets, pads and dummies. Other martial arts “games” and activities will also be presented to encourage social interaction and cooperation with others. After attending subsequent sessions, and with continued development, belt advancement may be possible. Thursdays, 5:45-6:30 pm. Ten weeks beginning on October 3; Fee is $175. Call Master Ro at 973-777-4741 or Fair Lawn Community School, 201-794-5450 ext. 2369.
