Man Hit by Train in Saddle Brook Killed

A 37-year-old Garfield man was killed after he was hit by a train under the Route 46 overpass in Saddle Brook.

A 37-year-old Garfield man died after he was hit by a train in Saddle Brook late Thursday.

Robert Kukutschka was hit by a Hoboken-bound train from Port Jervis under the Route 46 overpass near the border with Garfield, according to NJ Transit spokesperson Courtney Carroll.

Saddle Brook Police Chief Bob Kugler said township officers and Garfield Police responded to the scene, where they found Kukutschka dead at about 11:30 p.m.

There were no injuries among the train's passengers and crew and "minimal impact to service," according to Carroll.

NJ Transit Police are continuing to investigate the incident, Carroll said.
