Saddle Brook Hotel to Open in Spring, After Super Bowl

The former Saddle Brook Hotel & Convention Center is planning to reopen as a Crowne Plaza.

A new Crowne Plaza hotel in Saddle Brook won't open in time for the Super Bowl next month, but it is expected to open later this spring, The Record reported.

The Florida-based Alena Hospitality bought the defunct Saddle Brook Hotel & Convention Center last year with plans to renovate and reopen the hotel in time for the MetLife Stadium Super Bowl in February.

Alena President and CEO Jay Witzel told The Record that they had "expanded the scope of the work" and needed approval from the town.

The hotel, located next to Route 80, was originally built in the 1970s and features an unusual round tower. It operated as a Holiday Inn for years before becoming the Saddle Brook Hotel and Conference Center, which closed a few years ago. It includes 148 rooms and several restaurants and lounges.
