Students Handing Out Reflective Tags to Radburn Commuters

Fair Lawn has received 1,000 reflective safety tags to aid pedestrian safety.

Fair Lawn High School students and Mayor John Cosgrove will distribute free reflective safety tags to commuters at the Radburn Train Station Wednesday in an effort to make them more visible to drivers.

The idea came from Alexa Nicolaou, a local student who noticed it was very difficult to see the pedestrians as they walked away from the station in the dark. She wrote to officials about the problem earlier this year.

Pedestrian safety has been an ongoing concern in Fair Lawn. At least three people have been hit by cars near the Radburn station this year.

After hearing about the problem, the Ramsey-based company LunaTagz donated 500 of their wristbands to the effort. The Bergen County Police Department donated another 500, according to Cosgrove.

"These wristbands can help save people's lives," Cosgrove said at a council meeting this week.

Alexa will be out distributing the wristbands at the Radburn station with some of her friends and Mayor Cosgrove starting at 6 p.m. October 16.
